To ensure we can create the perfect kitchen design, it’s essential to provide accurate room measurements. Follow this easy 5-step guide and learn how to quickly and accurately measure your kitchen wall dimensions to produce a room plan:
No need for the full toolkit here - you will need just the following to prepare your room drawing:
1. A tape measure (in centimetres or millimetres)
2. A pencil and paper, or a measuring app if you're tech-savvy.
Start at one corner of the room and measure each wall in a continuous sequence, moving around the room until you return to the starting point. Be sure to record each measurement accurately, including any boxings or pillars that may be present.
Also be sure to measure the ceiling height (from the finished floor height), and note any areas where they may be a lower ceiling height, beam or sloped ceiling etc.
Measure the width and height of doors and windows, including any trims/framing, and the distance from the edges of these openings to the nearest corner.
Don't forget to note the height of the window sill from the floor too, and be sure to include the architrave in your total door width measurement.
Once you've added all the windows, doors and any other room features it should look something like the above example.
Check your room thoroughly (look inside any existing units!) and make a note of the positions and sizes of any electrical outlets, plumbing and gas connections (if applicable)
Be sure to watch out for things like stopcocks, fuse boxes, radiators/heating manifolds and any other utility, especially if you'll need to ensure access to them in the new kitchen design.
Accuracy is crucial, so double-check all measurements before submitting them. Measure twice, cut once as they saying goes!
And that's it! Congratulations, you've successfully measured up your room!
